Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I saw firsthand how education can change everything, especially for those who don’t always get a fair shot. Growing up in a community where resources were limited, I realized how much of a difference one supportive, engaged teacher could make. I wanted to be that person—someone who can open doors, challenge students to see their potential, and show them that their circumstances don’t have to define their future. It’s about more than teaching, about empowering others.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was with a student who never spoke up in class. One day, he raised his hand to share an idea. It wasn’t the “right” answer, but the fact that he spoke at all was huge. The look on his face after—like he’d unlocked something inside himself—was unforgettable. It wasn’t about the answer, but about creating a space where he felt safe enough to be heard. That moment reminded me that sometimes, the smallest actions are the most powerful.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were planning to start a family soon, saving would be a top priority. Teaching is fulfilling, but it doesn’t always offer the financial stability needed for big life changes. I’d set aside a good portion of the $25,000 for future expenses like a home or childcare. The rest would go towards personal growth, like taking courses to expand my skills, and investing in my community—whether that’s through educational projects or supporting local initiatives.
