Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was young I enjoyed two things, school and music. I loved singing and often sang to learn content, making up songs to help me pass tests. As I grew older I would teach others my songs to help them learn content too. I chose to become a music teacher to show students the joys of making music.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have many great memories of the last 15 years, but my most recent one just happened. I was teaching a challenging harmony to my 4th and 5th grade after school choir. When the students started singing their harmonies together their faces changed from concentration to surprise and then to excitement as they realized they had sung that beautifully piece of music flawlessly.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would get fun technology to help my students learn more about music production: Audio mixing and recording software and a mini sound booth for recording. I would also get some wiggle seats and other seating choices for my classroom. With anything left I will pay off my remaining student debt.
