Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because my 7th/8th grade math teacher changed my life, inspiring me to follow in her footsteps. My goal is to make a difference in my students' lives. If I can help a student go from hating math to at least tolerating it, I consider that a success. More than just teaching, I want to leave a lasting impact, showing students that learning can be meaningful and rewarding. My passion is to support, inspire, and guide them toward a brighter future.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was both terrifying and impactful. In my first year, a student came to the front of the room and threatened to hit me. I calmly told her to go ahead, and she was shocked by my lack of fear. I explained that if she did, she’d be sent to an alternative school, and I wouldn’t see her again. I also told her I felt bad that she was in a place where she wanted to hurt someone. Later that year, she thanked me and said I was her favorite teacher.

What would you do with the $25,000?

First, I would purchase essential materials for my classroom. Teaching AP Statistics requires collecting data, often using manipulatives like Barbies and measuring sticks for projects. These hands-on tools enhance learning and engagement. With the remaining money, I would pay off my student loans, as they provided me the opportunity to pursue my passion for teaching. Being able to do what I love every day is invaluable, and this investment would support both my students and my future.
