I am a Special Education teacher at the elementary level. I love teaching my students because there is always progress to celebrate!
Thank you for supporting Britney Gebhart in this year's competition. Your donations and participation will benefit The Planetary Society in their mission to advance space exploration, inspire discovery, and empower the next generation of innovators.
I became a teacher to help kids learn important skills to carry them further in their education, make them feel confident in themselves, build healthy relationships and learn how to cope through challenging times.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI have so many! One teaching experience that sticks out to me is when I had a 5th grade student who was added to my caseload & classroom later in the school year. He came to me with low self-esteem, constantly blaming others & getting into fights. He struggled with reading & it made him “feel stupid”. By the end of his 6th grade year, his reading had improved but more importantly, his confidence and self-regulation had exploded with success! He made amazing progress finally with the right tools!
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won $25,000, I would be able to live comfortably and be able to pour even more back into my classroom and students with materials, learning curriculums and tools. I would also love to further my own education, specifically in the area of mental health and trauma in elementary age kids.
