Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help kids understand math. Math has always been a subject that gives some students anxiety. My goal is to make my students feel more confident and grow in their math knowledge by the time they leave my class.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of most memorable experiences was when I had a student who told me right away she hated math because she always struggled. This student was in my homeroom. I told her we could always work together during that time and study hall period to make sure she understood the material. She took me up on my offer and we spent extra time a few times a week going over the material she was struggling with. By the end of the year she had earned my Math Award due to her dedication and hard work.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 I would start by paying off my master’s degree I recently earned. I would then replenish the consumables I use in my classroom such as pencils, glue sticks, expo markers, and lined paper. I would also purchase new desks for my classroom and get rid of the uncomfortable attached desks. In addition, I would spruce up my room with a new standing desk, lamp, and succulents. For my home I would purchase a new couch. Lastly, I would put the remaining in savings for emergencies.
