I love seeing the "aha!" moment when something finally clicks in their head. I teach social studies, so we learn about the whole world!

As cliche as it is, I became a teacher to help people. I started as an online tutor during the pandemic, while starting a graduate program to be a family therapist. I found that my students brought me so much joy. So, I decided to start substitute teaching. My first assignment was a class of first graders. Those days were so fulfilling! I left the grad program to be a long-term sub, and over time worked my way up to be a 6th/7th Social Studies teacher. I am where I'm meant to be.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceLast year, I had a student all the teachers struggled with. She could talk the paint off a wall, talked back, and never did any work! I never stopped being kind to her. Never stopped checking in with her academically & emotionally. We found ways to incentivize her to work. My class ended, and I thought that was it. This year, she made it a point to bring me a note saying "Thank you for putting up with my attitude and not giving up on me. History is one of my favorite subjects because of you."
What would you do with the $25,000?First thing would be to pay off my student loans. Second, I'd set aside a portion for the care of our class pet: A bearded dragon named Spike. The rest I would save to help out students who need support in getting new uniforms. I have a few scholars who get dress-coded often because they only have one uniform shirt. Others are cold and uncomfortable because they can't afford the uniform jackets.
