Tell us why you became a teacher

My father is a teacher and coach. I’ve seen the effect he’s had on young lives. I admire the love and adoration he receives from the people he’s taught, mentored, and coached. I also love children. I love working with potential and helping them overcome challenges. I also feel extremely valued and appreciated in my role as a primary educator. Students don’t meet a lot of males in my role and show me a lot of love because of it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was able to work on a year long experience with the Louisiana Children’s museum where they came into the class twice and week and offered additional PD to teachers. My students grew more academically and personally than I’d ever experienced. They were able to practice communicating their feelings and working together on challenging work. I also learned new and innovate ways to document and display their work. I grew as a teacher and the students grew too.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My family is moving from New Orleans to Colombus, Ohio in the fall. I would use the money to help my find relocate and buy initial supplies to set up my new classroom. I also have a 2 daughters, Nalani Ann and Cash Money. I would use some of the money to start savings accounts for them.
