I became a teacher to make a difference in the world. All I ever wanted to do since the age of 7, is to leave the world a better place when I am gone. I want students to know that they are loved and that they belong. Gandhi said “you must be the change you wish to see in the world” and I want to be that to as many students as possible. I do everything for them.

I am a PALS teacher. This program means the world to me. I train high school students and they go to the elementary, middle, and junior high schools and get paired up with a kid. They are there for them. They might help them with classwork, play a game, listen to music, read a book, or simply just be their friend. My kids do so much and I surprised them by bringing a baby kangaroo to class to surprise them. This moment was one that these kids will never forget and it warmed my heart.

I would use it towards some of my student debt and the rest would go to help with suicide prevention. I had a friend who passed away to suicide and I do not want any student to feel like that is the only option. I think investing in mental health at the school level will help combat suicide and make the school a safe space for students.
