I started substituting at my children’s school and I found out I was really good at connecting with children and helping them with their academic struggles. I went back to college and got my teaching degree and I have been teaching little kids how to read ever since.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI had a very academically low first grader. He struggled with letters and words. But he was an amazing artist. I knew he realized he struggled compared to his peers so I always encouraged to draw and praised him for his talent. His mother later told me that he was so proud to tell her that his teacher says “I’m a great artist”. I recommended him for a summer art camp in our local city. His mom took him. I still have a picture he drew me hanging in my classroom.
