Tell us why you became a teacher

Ultimately, I remember the power only this profession has to transform lives. I remember the teachers that invested so much of their time and efforts into me. They helped show me how to endure the tough times, create good times, and build a successful future through their tough love. I wanted to become this teacher for others. I wanted to not only increase their knowledge, but I want to make a difference in their lives so they believe in themselves and achieve greatness.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience actually started with a student who had been a chronic behavioral issue. She was constantly causing disruptions and was completely disengaged. I began having one-on-one conversations and showed her my true care for her as a person. Through these conversations, encouragement, and tough love we came to an understanding. It was at this point not only did her academics soar she was able to help and encourage her struggling peers. I am still so proud of this young woman.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000 I would complete my doctoral degree, which would give me the power to give back to my students and the school community. The funds would not only help with tuition, but it would free up income to buy more supplies for my students. Working in a title one school in the greater Atlanta Metropolitan Area my students not only have academic needs, but they also have personal needs. This investment in furthering my education would inspire my students to always pursue their dreams.
