Tell us why you became a teacher

I was asked to start the digital media program at my school in 2016. I had no previous experience but they believed in me. Now, my department is leading in the district with performance and industry certifications. I decided to keep teaching when I experienced the unplanned fulfillment of giving my students life skills that they can use immediately. They make teaching worth it!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

This year I started at a new school and on the first day, we were producing content. The best moment was when my principal allowed me to take over 2 adjacent classrooms for class media production. It was a magical feeling walking down the hallway and seeing content being produced by my students in each room. We gained over 1 million views and won the attention & hearts of our city and school district.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest this money into my non-profit organization, Big Motion Media Group, to continue building out the infrastructure for a city-wide digital media program. I’ve already been working closely with the city on various CVI programs and this would be a major contribution to my goals for Baton Rouge, LA. The program aims to increase positive interactions and reduce violence overall in our city. We achieve this by producing engaging events and media content that exemplifies our mission.
