I became a teacher to make a difference for students like me—those who grew up facing challenges and needing someone to believe in them. Education changed my life, and I wanted to create a classroom where all students feel supported, challenged, and inspired. Teaching allows me to combine my love of learning, problem-solving, and mentorship to help students reach their full potential and see possibilities beyond their circumstances.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments was when I was teaching lunar phases, and my students were really struggling. Then, walking back from lunch, I overheard one student joke to another, “Man, you’re like the new moon; not bright at all.” Not what I expected but wow! They were getting it! Moments like these, when students take learning beyond the classroom and truly understand, remind me why I love teaching—seeing their growth and success is the best reward.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My husband and I are looking to relocate, and $25,000 would go a long way in making that transition smoother. I would also use a portion of the funds to organize a celebration for my school, giving back to the community that has supported me. If there’s anything left, I would put it toward savings or student loans, helping to secure a more stable future for my family.
