I became a teacher at first since that’s what my parents can only afford to support me in college apart from the reason that my mom wants me to follow the footsteps of my grandpa. I wanted to be challenged so I took SPED. After several years of teaching special needs students, I learned to be more passionate about teaching. It’s more about what you can give to the students “love, time and patience” that makes teaching worthwhile. Making a difference of children’s lives and their families too.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is when I was a private special needs teacher to a 17 yrs old with autism where I live in the student’s house. It was a life changing experience as I get to see and feel like what teaching is in a home environment and not around the four corners of the classroom. I had to teach him everything from academics, daily functioning, communication & socialization, swimming, DMV manual & behavior management. I was an all around teacher and 24/7 friend to my student.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I will go take a vacation in my hometown in Philippines and pay off mortgage. Some portion of the money will also be donated to “operation smile” organization to help provide surgery for children with cleft lip and palate as well for children who are fighting cancer in my hometown. I also want to treat my mom to a nice vacation and be able to continue to support her needs back home. I want to save and invest in a vast land, nice mobile home, a decent car here in the US.
