My family chastised me to just go get on food stamps and drain the economy as a single teen mother. Instead, I applied for a Federal Grant to go to college so I could study math, my most difficult subject. This was in an effort in proving my self worth. It changed my whole life so I wanted to help other young people find hope that that they could use math and education to build a brighter future for themselves.

My most memorable teaching experience: I helped my Statistics class become data diplomats so they could create, collect, and present a data story to the School Board, the State Department of Education, and the National Science Foundation. This special project ultimately empowered this class to get their meal schedule changed so more students would have an equal opportunity to eat breakfast at school. This work was recognized as 2024's Cochise County Special Project of the Year!!!

I would buy new computers for my School! I am a math teacher working in a US/Mexico borderlands school that does not have efficient funding to provide reliable computers to students. I am currently working with 3 Universities in 3 different grant funded fellowship programs to try and find support to get the technology my students need and deserve. Equity for data literacy is my focus nevertheless it is very challenging to make gains when the school desperately needs a functional computer lab.
