Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher after having a career for 7 years in another field. I had always had a love for learning and knew that I wanted to spread that joy to others.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I worked in a high crime, low income area my first year teaching. Some of the kids had no positive adult figure in their lives. Most were worried about where their next meal was going to come from. It was a hard year. At the end, I received a letter from one of my most challenging students, thanking me for pushing and believing in her. That is why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would work towards my National Board certification first. Then, I’d take a nice vacation to celebrate all that I have accomplished. Finally, I’d save the rest for my own three girls.
