Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a difference in the lives of my students and their families. My students spend most of their week with me as their teacher and I want them to know what it’s like to be part of a family in school. Teaching is the most rewarding job, second to being a mom of course. Seeing my students grow personally and academically is my goal while also including their families in the process. Learning about curriculum is great, but learning about life skills is even better.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the best moments I’ve had as a teacher is seeing every student come up with a product of their own. No matter their academic competency, they all were involved and engaged. They created a product to sell, held to their budget, used class-time to put it together, created a commercial, and sold it for real money to over 200 kids. Most parents came to enjoy in this epic event. They decided to use the money they earned to donate to 2 local cancer patients.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the money, I want to either open a community center for families who cannot afford to spend a lot of money on a gym membership, or I would like to start a competitive soccer league for families who cannot afford club prices. My dream is to somehow give back to the community who has given me so much as a teacher.
