Tell us why you became a teacher

I grew up on a 5th generation farm, hard work was a must. My parents instilled the importance and value of education to my brothers and I at a young age. I was fortunate enough to be blessed by outstanding teachers and coaches while a student. Because of this experience, I received as a student, I wanted to pass on their legacy of my students. I also felt it was important to be active in both the district and community with coaching, volunteering, and working sporting events.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are so many ! I taught MS Girls PE 29 years 27 in one district. During a P/T conference I had parents of a new student visit me. As I was visiting with the parents they were very stoic. When I was done they looked at each other and in a stern voice the Father said “ I have one question.” He said “At the previous school my daughter hated PE but now she loves PE and when she comes home from school she runs laps around the house and works out. Thank you for helping her love school.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I was involved in Track for 41 years as an athlete and coach. I would some of the money to improve the track facilities at our district. By upgrading the Long and Triple Jump pits from a dirt pit to concrete and proper drainage. Also I want to recognize our Field Event record holders and All- State athletes with their distances on markers on the entrance to the stadium. And to improve the Poultry/Rabbit Barn for our County Fair.
