Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I can’t imagine doing anything else. Teaching is a calling that I felt starting around age 7. There has never been another profession I even considered. The rewards I feel having such a huge impact on my students is second to nothing. To watch a student learn and grow both academically and emotionally is an amazing feeling. I feel honored and grateful everyday that I get to do what I do!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are so many amazing moments in teaching, it’s hard to pick just one. One of my more recent experiences is when I had a student enter my class who was labeled as a “selective mute.” Up to this point the student would not speak a word, or participate in any activities in his previous classes. Through patience, understanding, and an appreciation of his creativity, I was able to develop a rapport and watch this child become someone who asked questions and fully shared with the class!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would like to use it to travel with my husband! I would love to visit Europe or Australia! It has also always been a dream of mine to go to Bora Bora or the Maldives. Some day either way I hope to get to all those places!
