Tell us why you became a teacher

Growing up, I had amazing teachers that guided me through school. If I was struggling, they were there. And it didn't always have to be school related. I had trusted teachers who cared. And because of that, I wanted to be the same for somebody else and teaching was that outlet. Working in a low income school, I have the ability to show students that their hard work and dedication can pay off!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have the honor of being able to participate and coach two Unified sports at the high school I teach at. Unified sports teams at the high school level partner with Special Olympics to provide opportunities for students with disabilities to participate in a team sport. Our bocce team swept our county tournament in all three categories! Being able to see the growth, joy and friendship that being a part of those activities bring them is amazing.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have ambitions to continue to help students at higher levels within my school district. To do so, I first have to get my masters degree! Currently, I teach during the day and then take night classes to further my education. The $25,000 would help tremendously in paying tuition costs, books, and supplies. Some of those funds would also go towards providing much needed supplies for my classroom.
