Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always had a passion for science and working with youth. I worked for several years in food microbiology, but it wasn't allowing me to work with children or use my other skills. I then worked for the Boys & Girls Club for a few years which was an amazing experience and made me realize how much good I could do in the classroom.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience in the classroom was when I heard that a student used to hate science, but now loves it thanks to my class. There is nothing that compares to hearing that you have made a difference and introduced a new passion to a child.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to make some enhancements to my classroom and my home. My husband and I are both teachers so it would amazing to help with his classroom as well. I would also love to take a trip to Iceland to learn more about rocks and Earth's natural phenomenon that I could share with my students.
