Tell us why you became a teacher

I emigrated from South Korea when I was 12 years old. It was difficult to adjust to a school where the instruction was face paced especially difficult subject like Science and English. There were few teachers who helped me learn English faster and become successful. I was inspired by what they did and the difference they made in me and wanted to make difference in students’ lives. I kept the dream of becoming a teacher in my heart and I made it happen in college.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I taught continuation high school for two years from 2014 to 2016. I was teaching punett square and how to get the probability. One of the students was 18 years old. She was trying really hard to understand it. She told me she looks up to me. I was only few years older than her as I just graduated college. It made my day and I still remember that student and what she said to me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take my students to California Science Center as I am a middle school science teacher. My students do not get to go on science field trip because our school does not have the fund to take them. With the money remaining, I would give my students scholarship with the equal amount.
