Tell us why you became a teacher

My teachers and high school guidance counselor always listened and gave a helpful hand. It all started with my kindergarten teacher; she always made sure that my hair was brushed, I had clean clothes, and food in my stomach. She showed me that she cared and didn't give up on me despite the circumstances of my home life. Throughout my years in school my teachers pushed me to beyond my potential even though I couldn't see it. They taught me to never give up; I will always be thankful.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have had so many great experiences during my short time teaching. Every year brings a new memory that my students and I carry on throughout the years. For me, it is seeing my students grow and become stronger readers and students. Reading is the foundation of all learning; to see a student who has been struggling to read, read a sentence without guidance, is the best feeling ever. I love to celebrate all victories with my students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would love to make memories with my students by doing fun and crazy science experiments. I would also use this money to contribute into a savings account for my four children for college. This money would help ease a lot of financial stress that my family is feeling currently due to unforeseen situations that have happened in our life. This opportunity would serve as a stepping stone in setting my children's future up for success.
