Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to help others. I went from a grad student studying geology to a special education teacher working with students with severe emotional behavioral disorders. I fell in love helping educate students, and teaching them not only academics but social and life skills.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

It is difficult to choose just one memorable moment, as I keep bag of tokens from former students and colleagues. But if I had to choose just one, it would be when a student of mine was selected as a top student and chose me as her most influential teacher. As a letter of fact, this happened twice. And over 6 years later, I am still in contact with these young ladies.

What would you do with the $25,000?

There are so many options, but I would love to start a care closet for our students that includes clothes, personal hygiene items, shoes, school supplies, and food. I would love to be able to provide jackets/coats that are in dress code for our students during the winter. I would like to create a laundry room where we can wash clothes if students needed it.
