Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to fulfill my passion for helping all students become readers. Since the pandemic, reading ability a has plummeted and I saw an opportunity to make a difference with the children in my community. I began my masters work to become a certified teacher during the pandemic.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was with a child who came to me knowing seemingly nothing. I fostered the child’s basic needs which were not being fulfilled at home such as food, hugs, discussions 1-1, and words of encouragement. I watched this child go from producing 0 to being the TOP student in my class within 2 months. This child lights up about learning and loves to share his wisdom and new learning with those around him. It was/ is beautiful, and the reason I am doing this.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money to buy new things I have to use my personal salary on currently. I would spend it on healthy breakfast/ snack items for my students, new furniture for my classroom, new learning games and materials, and I would also like to do something for all the teachers, who like me are pouring their hearts and souls into the children. I would like to provide free snacks/ drinks for teachers at my school through the year. Teachers need to eat, too!
