Tell us why you became a teacher

Being a teacher was a lifelong dream of mine. As a child I always admired how my kindergarten teacher showed us love, patience and taught us something new every day. I aspired to do that one day, which is why I became a teacher. Being a part of my students’ journey in learning is such a huge satisfaction for me and seeing them grow gives me that drive to keep doing my best as a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I would say being a mentor teacher for those still in college to become teachers, especially my first mentee. I was able to be a part of her journey to becoming a teacher and for about 9 years now I have witnessed her evolve as an exemplar educator. Her gains and achievements also feel like my achievements and through her I feel like I am able to make an even bigger impact. By her applying what she learned with me in her own classroom, we are able to reach more students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

After 11 years in the same district, I took a leap of faith and moved to a smaller school district which meant taking a big pay cut which has brought me a few set backs. I would like to pay off some debt with the $25k. I would also use some of those funds to buy a few things and supplies for my students.
