I get to have fun at my job and show students that learning never stops. I love implementing a growth mindset in each of them.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I switched to an education major in college at the start of COVID after watching a documentary. The doc inspired me to be an educated woman & inspire young people to learn. I love that the teaching profession is different every day. I love being able to make connections with students and sharing my passion for cultural diversity. Even if students aren't crazy about the subject matter, I make sure that my classroom is a place where they can show up as themselves and be accepted and celebrated.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I recall teaching my middle school Spanish class (which is a beginning level class) my first year. I had the whole class engaged and hooked in a story we were reading (in Spanish) because we had props, actors playing the characters, and all-around great participation. Every student was understanding the content and was hyped that they were comprehending the language. I was genuinely so excited for them and I think that energy transferred to them.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would pay off my student loans and invest anything left over. I would love to set myself up for a comfortable future so that I can continue teaching. :)
