Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I am passionate about helping young children learn and grow. I believe that the early years are essential for building a love of learning, and I want to create a positive environment where children feel safe to explore and discover new things.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences was when a student confidently read a decodable story and turned to me, saying, "Miss Cantu, I read this whole story because you taught me how to read!" It was heartwarming to hear this affirmation, reminding me of the impact I have on my students every day. Knowing that I helped him reach this milestone was truly amazing.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000, I would invest in new fine motor toys to enhance my students’ skills and purchase incentive prizes and manipulatives to support math and reading lessons. I would also buy additional toys for free play to help develop communication skills. Lastly, I would use any leftover funds to further my education by obtaining certifications in SPED and ESL, and eventually pursuing a counseling degree.
