Tell us why you became a teacher

I have a long line of teachers in my family that have truly inspired me to pursue this profession. It wasn't until I taught my niece how to write her name that really solidified this career as my purpose. I love seeing the light bulb go off in children's minds when they have grasped a concept. Teaching is more than just a job to me, it is apart of who I am. I serve in many different roles in my life and they all allow me to use my skills as a teacher to be effective.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happened my first year of teaching. In my first year, I taught kindergarten and my main goal was to make sure my students knew how to read before they transitioned to the next grade. One of my lower students really struggled with decoding words and reading a sentence. Through many small groups and interventions, this particular student was able to read 3 sentences to the class by the end of the year. Not only were the students and I proud, but so was he.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000, my first goal would be to purchase my mom a nice used car. Not only was she my first teacher, but she was my third grade teacher as well. She has helped me so much in my career as a teacher and as a person and this would be a minor opportunity to show how grateful I am. The monies I have left over would be used to make sure my classroom is fully stocked with the things my students need including school supplies, manipulatives, etc.
