Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because, in high school, I was captivated by science, despite its challenges.Initially, I thought my only paths were becoming a doctor or a teacher-ironically, I never considered teaching. In college, I discovered the endless opportunities in science, and after becoming a molecular biologist,I realized that teaching could be my way to inspire others.I want students to see not only the potential of a career in science but also the profound beauty and miracle of life that science

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was when I was explaining entropy and states of matter. A student struggled to understand how solids become more disordered as they transition to gas. Knowing he played football, I compared it to a huddle, where the players are tightly organized, and then the line, where they’re more fluid, to the chaos of a fumble. Once he connected the concept, his face lit up, and he grasped it instantly. That moment of clarity was truly rewarding.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would first invest in my students by purchasing classroom and lab supplies to create more engaging learning experiences and laboratories that they would conduct. I'd set aside some for retirement, ensuring long-term stability and pay off some of the loans that I had agreed upon when obtaining my credential. Lastly, I’d treat myself to a well-deserved trip to Hawaii, exploring the North Shore, surfing, and snorkeling to recharge for the journey ahead.
