Annie Lemings

I love getting to share my love of art with kids, then to see their amazing creativity take over and make something incredible with it.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I wanted to surround myself with art and other creatives. Young people have passion, energy, and fresh creative ideas that you can’t find anywhere else. Helping them find their voice and showing them how to express themselves visually is my favorite thing.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching observational drawing and linear perspective are both amazing because there are always a-ha moments when the learning clicks! But working with my AP art students who create a portfolio of work investigating a question or concept is incredibly fulfilling. Seeing them delve head first into something they’re so passionate about, then watching them develop and communicate visually is enthralling.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would take a trip to France to visit the Louvre and Musee d’Orsay - to see the work of the greats which fuels my passion for art and education
