Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to guide and share the adventure of endless learning possibilities with my students. My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child possesses an innate potential to grow, learn, and thrive when provided with the right tools, environment, and opportunities. By integrating the principles of a growth mindset, academic choice, emotional regulation, and project-based learning, my “Hasse Posse” students are able to take charge of their own educational journey.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience involved the history of Nazi Germany in WWII. Each student was assigned one line of the lyrics from Garth Brooks, “The Dance,” & tasked with finding a photo that matched that lyric. Taking an "old-school" approach, we decided to turn the photos into actual slides. This retro slideshow technology brought the project to life in an unforgettable way. In a darkened library, students connected emotionally to the subject matter through the music and visuals.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My $25,000 winning legacy includes: Contributing to the college funds of my three daughters, two of whom are pursuing careers in education. Investing in our district’s school forest, enriching outdoor education opportunities and fostering a deeper connection to the natural world. Attending "STEAM in the PARK," a 5-day, 4-night experience for educators who are passionate about nature and education. Creating a scholarship to inspire future generations to excel and contribute positively.
