Tell us why you became a teacher

As a child I found school to be challenging. I always feard being in a class with one of my friends, in the event I were to make a “mistake”. Teachers back then ( and I’d argue to say even now) felt that taunting a child would ingrain in them the “correct” answer. It wasn’t until my later years where I had teacher bring learning to life and I was hooked! I swore then that I’d dedicate myself to making learning fun and engaging.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Having been teaching for about 15 years, I have many fond memories and the first does that sometimes you wish you could forget but all the same I wouldn’t trade this year in for anything in the world. On the very first day of teaching fourth grade in a new school, new state a-student looked up at me and said Mrs. Phillips had I known it was you that was going to be my teacher I wouldn’t of thrown up this morning. I paused for a moment and wondered exactly what that meant, it was appreciation!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would use it to help cover my son’s medical bills. He is battling leukemia. I have three little girls who deserve to go on a trip with their brother and create lasting memories. I would, of course, donate to charities leukemia, and then come to society or Embrace Kids foundation. I would use it to help my school, which I’m currently working out well it might be my first year in school stand tall and proud for over 100 years
