Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be the kind of educator I wish I had in high school. Back then, I often felt unseen and struggled to grasp new concepts. That experience shaped my approach to teaching. I strive to make learning engaging and accessible. By using everyday analogies, I help my students connect with science in a way that feels relatable and easy to understand.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was working at an Adult Education center. My students came from diverse backgrounds—teens who were court-mandated to attend, non-English-speaking adults, and even former classmates who had dropped out of school. Seeing them engage, enjoy learning, and find success reaffirmed my decision to become a teacher.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I should say I’d put it toward my student loans, especially after 28 years of teaching, but honestly, a nice family vacation sounds perfect. I’d also love to refresh my classroom, creating a comfortable and welcoming space where my students can thrive.
