Tell us why you became a teacher

Becoming a teacher wasn't on my career list at all. As I was trying to figure out my career choice, my best friend brought up the idea of teaching. She thought it would be a good fit for my personality and my love for people. I ended up contacting two very special former teachers, Mr. Ford and Mr. Anderson (my 7th grade science teachers). I asked if I could come in and see what it was like to be a science teacher. I fell in love with it day 1 and the rest is history.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable moments are the connections that I make with my students. I teach 10th-12th grade, So, I get to have many students for 2 years of their high school career. Watching them grow up and find their way to the next phase of their life brings me such joy. I call myself their "Self Proclaimed School Mother" and it is a role I take very seriously and enjoy so much!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I have two kids in college and I would love to help them so they can find a career that brings them challenges and joys like mine has. I would also like to treat my students to a fun and engaging activity or field trip. Something we could do together that relates to science.
