Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to be able to give back and to help kids that were like me. I struggled throughout school, due to ADHD. So many children get lost in the shuffle. I had a wonderful teacher who lifted me up. It was my mission to be able to do that for my students. My students know that they are safe and loved when they are in my classroom. They know that I will do anything to help them succeed. Being able to be that person to my students is the reason I became a teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Everyday is a new most memorable experience for me. My students fill my life with happiness and joy. They make me want to get up every morning and get to the building early to get ready to welcome them. I teach high school seniors, so every time one of my students shares a college acceptance letter or scholarship award is an amazing day for both of us. Seeing them walk across the stage at graduation, knowing that I had something to do with them reaching that goal is what makes me love my job

What would you do with the $25,000?

The $25,000 would be used to help set up a program to make sure that our student athletes are prepared mentally for competing at the college level. These athletes learn the physical skills, but sometimes lack the mental skills to be successful at the next level. This money would help fill that gap.
