I became a teacher because school was my safe place. Growing up, I didn’t know the warmth of a family, but I knew the warmth of a classroom. Teachers like Mrs. Perry and Mrs. P saw me, supported me, and changed my life. Now, I strive to be that steady light for my students—the same light I once searched for. Every child deserves a place where they feel safe, loved, and believed in, and I’m honored to create that space every day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments is when past students or their siblings stop by just to say hi. It’s a small but powerful reminder that the impact of a classroom goes beyond academics—it’s about connection, trust, and belonging. Knowing that students remember our time together and still feel that bond reminds me why I do this job. Those moments prove that teaching isn’t just about lessons; it’s about leaving a lasting imprint on a child’s heart.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would begin by addressing any outstanding loans or debt to relieve financial burdens. I would then allocate part of the funds to expand my teacher t-shirt and sweatshirt designs, potentially growing it into a small business. Any remaining balance would be considered for purchasing land to build a home or making an addition to our current property, creating additional space for our growing family. This approach would allow for both financial stability and long-term growth.
