Art has always been my way of making sense of the world, and I wanted to give that experience to others. Teaching art isn’t just about technique—it’s about problem-solving, resilience, and self-expression. I love watching students grow in confidence and creativity. Art is for everyone, and my goal is to create a space where all students feel valued. I became an art teacher to inspire, empower, and show students that their voices matter.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

A student once told me, “I never liked art, until your class.” She struggled at first but kept going, and by the end of the semester, she created a piece she was truly proud of and went into the art show! Seeing her confidence grow was a powerful reminder of why I teach. Moments like that—when a student realizes their potential—are what make teaching art so rewarding.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won, I’d finally pay off my student loans and put some money toward a more reliable truck for my 80-mile daily commute. Driving something comfortable would make a huge difference! I’d also love to take my family on a well-deserved vacation to spend quality time together.
