Art has always been my way of making sense of the world, and I wanted to give that experience to others. Teaching art isn’t just about technique—it’s about problem-solving, resilience, and self-expression. I love watching students grow in confidence and creativity. Art is for everyone, and my goal is to create a space where all students feel valued. I became an art teacher to inspire, empower, and show students that their voices matter.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA student once told me, “I never liked art, until your class.” She struggled at first but kept going, and by the end of the semester, she created a piece she was truly proud of and went into the art show! Seeing her confidence grow was a powerful reminder of why I teach. Moments like that—when a student realizes their potential—are what make teaching art so rewarding.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won, I’d finally pay off my student loans and put some money toward a more reliable truck for my 80-mile daily commute. Driving something comfortable would make a huge difference! I’d also love to take my family on a well-deserved vacation to spend quality time together.
