Tell us why you became a teacher

There was once was a girl whose dreams were to become a cardiologist, but whose heart was changed after several mission trips. This vision was transformed from fixing physical hearts to growing, inspiring, and healing hearts through becoming a teacher. It brings me so much joy planting that seed at the beginning of each school year and seeing the incredible growth from each of my students. I knew becoming a teacher would fill my heart just as much as I hope to always fill my students hearts!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when I won district elementary teacher of the year! At first, they asked me to speak to the whole staff. Of course, the thought of being on stage by myself was very frightening. I had an idea - let’s get my class involved! My superintendent loved the idea. We all wrote a song together and dedicated it to the staff of my district when we sang at convocation. It was an unforgettable moment!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I’d love to share it with the thirteen student teachers I’ve mentored. I’d also look into taking my class on a field trip to a national park since our classroom is themed around them. I would also pay off some of my student loans.
