I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. It was never an option; it was innate. I love helping people thrive. Even on the longest and hardest days, I am energized when I hear a student say, “I can!” or I witness a success. It is my greatest goal to help others find their passion through giving them new experiences and opening their worlds to new possibilities. This can allow for understanding, tolerance, growth, and innovation so that our future generations can flourish!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience“School” failed my students. This caused them to become resistant to learning and led to negative behavior. In 2019 I entered my emotional support class in the PA Governor’s STEM Competition. They were the first special education group to enter this prestigious competition and earned Honorable Mention! The students achieved well beyond their typical academic level and practiced 21st century skills (WIN!), but they had a positive experience about school that they could share and remember forever!
What would you do with the $25,000?I typically spend money of my own to make my room or activities more engaging or accessible for my students. $25,000 could go a long way to support a sustainable program! A full class set of iPads, flexible seating, new tech tools, a cart that doesn’t spill all over the parking lot as I lug STEM items between buildings, and a new storage system for my Maker’s Space Items are some of the many items that I have on my wish list. I am also a DIYer, so making updates to my home would also be nice!
