Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was blessed to have a couple of high school teachers who really made a difference in my life, my self-esteem, and the goals I set for myself. I wanted to do the same. I strive to make my students fell safe, gain confidence, and believe that they can achieve anything they put their mind to. That has been the most rewarding part of my career. I love that I remain in touch with many of my former students.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Probably my most memorable experience was leading a student group in collecting books to send to schools in Africa. The students were so passionate, and we got the entire district involved. Our goal was to collect 10,000 books, which was a lofty goal indeed! We ended up collecting over 18,000 books!! To see our staff and student body come together was so incredibly rewarding. It was an experience like no other.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would definitely give some back to both my unique programs that I teach that do not receive much funding (Radio and TV and Adv. TV). I would also like to get students to spearhead efforts to help our local animal shelters, a cause near and dear to my heart. The shelters are struggling so much right now and are at capacity. This would also teachmy students about compassion and the rewards of of giving to those in need.
