Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching has always been my true calling. From first grade, when I used the classroom pointer to guide my peers through the schedule, to playing “school” at home, I found joy in leading and inspiring. In high school, I volunteered in first-grade classrooms, solidifying my belief in the importance of fostering curiosity and growth. Teaching isn’t just a career—it’s who I am, and I am eager to inspire and support the next generation of learners.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments as a reading specialist was working with a shy first-grader who struggled deeply with reading. They were often discouraged and reluctant to try. Through daily creative games, their confidence slowly grew. By the end of the year, they proudly read aloud to the class and even performed in the school play. Witnessing this transformation—from almost giving up to thriving—reinforced the profound impact a teacher can have and solidified my commitment to fostering them.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I’d start by saving for my 2 1/2-year-old son’s college fund, giving him a strong foundation for his bright future. I’d also set aside some for travel, taking him to different places and cultures to open his mind to the world beyond what we know and create unforgettable memories. I’d donate to a charity that’s close to my heart, helping causes that bring joy and support to others. It’s a joyful way to invest in his future, enrich his life, and spread some happiness in the world.
