Tell us why you became a teacher

Teaching is a calling I received long ago. I have always wanted to pass on the gift of knowledge to others. I wanted to start while they were young so I could enstill the love of learning early. I think it is important for all students to want to come to school and learn. I wanted to be the reason why they wanted to come to school. As a teacher I can show them how to discover, reflect, play, and enjoy the world around them.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching writing is an ongoing process. Helping students learn to love writing is challenging. One of my students started writing a book in 8th grade. She wanted to be a published author by the time she got to high school. She said she loves to write because of my 5th grade writing class. I am proud to say she is a published author of a young adult novel through Amazon. I am so proud to have passed on the love of writing to a student!

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I was to win the $25,000 I would buy a class set of head phones for my students, because they are always getting broken. I would also provide more flexible seating options for all students in my classroom. I would also buy a flowering tree for our school butterfly garden and more flowers to plant. I would invest some of the money, as well. A lot of my students enjoy food driven rewards, so I would provide more rewards that include yummy food!
