I get to create a safe space for ALL my students. I get to see them grow & flourish into the best versions themselves.

I became a teacher because of my own experience in middle school. I had a math teacher who didn’t see my potential and treated me differently. That feeling of being dismissed stuck with me, and I knew I never wanted another student to feel the way I did. I wanted to be the teacher who sees every student, supports them, and helps them realize their potential. My goal is to create a classroom where every student feels valued, understood, and capable of success
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable moments are when students tell me that I’m not just their teacher, but a safe space and a part of their community. Hearing that I’ve created an environment where they feel heard, supported, and valued is the most rewarding part of my job. It reminds me that teaching is not just about academics, but about building trust and connection. Being there for my students in this way makes all the hard work worth it.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won, I would use the money to fund a school trip to Japan. My students come from a low-income neighborhood, and I want to give them the opportunity to see the world, just like I wished I had growing up. Having had a similar experience, I know how important it is for them to experience life beyond their circumstances, especially with all that’s happening in the world. This trip would open their eyes to new perspectives and possibilities, helping them dream bigger.
