Tell us why you became a teacher

I have a reading comprehension deficit and always struggled in school. The other students would make fun of me, so I decided to go back to school to get a teaching degree in English and special eduction. I never want any of my students to feel the way I did. My classroom is a safe place for all students regardless of their ability.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moment was when I helped and taught a student who was two years behind in credits. I worked with this student one-on-one until he completed all his courses and credits to graduate. I went to graduation to watch him walk across that stage. After graduation, he had written me a letter expressing how much he appreciated everything I did for him and never gave up. This is why I teach to see these moments.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I work at an amazing school. I would love to give back. My students are the reason I get up every morning. I want to continue to help them in any way I can, so they can be successful. I also would help my daughter finish college and help my oldest daughter continue her dreams in her field of neuroscience.
