Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because as an elementary student, I was always behind due to my learning disability, and that struggle followed me throughout my school years. I know how isolating and frustrating it can feel to be left behind, and I never want another child to experience that. My goal is to make sure every student feels supported, capable, and seen. Teaching is my way of creating a better experience for children, so they never have to feel the way I did growing up.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments was during a writing assignment when a student, who often struggled with confidence, surprised me with an incredibly creative and imaginative story. Watching their eyes light up as they shared their ideas and seeing their pride in what they created was unforgettable. It reminded me of how powerful writing can be in helping students find their voice and show sides of themselves we might not always see. Moments like that are why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I had $25,000, I would use it to make a lasting impact on both my students and my family. In the classroom, I’d invest in creating an innovative learning environment with resources to support diverse needs and inspire creativity. I’d fund unique opportunities, like field trips, to help my students grow and learn in meaningful ways. I’d also use part of the money to support my family, ensuring we’re taken care of and can continue to focus on what truly matters most.
