Growing up, I was always the kid who could draw—art was my gateway to the world. It helped me develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures while keeping me out of trouble. Throughout K-12 and into college and graduate school, my art teachers inspired me to embrace creativity and find greatness in my own way. After college, I knew I wanted to share my passion, creativity, and love for art with the next generation, inspiring future artists to find their own voice.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceFormer students now share how impactful I was as their teacher, with many still pursuing art—truly warming my spirit. Exposing them to careers, art, and history while offering wisdom and highlighting creativity’s power has been deeply meaningful. Encouraging and guiding them to share their stories and create work they once deemed impossible remains one of the most rewarding parts of my journey as an artist and educator.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would invest in additional art-related training to develop skills that enhance my teaching, engage my classroom, and enrich my curriculum. I’d also take time to travel to historically significant art locations, experiencing incredible works to recharge personally, gain inspiration, and share my love of art with my family. Finally, I’d save a portion of the funds for a rainy day.
