Tell us why you became a teacher

When I was a little girl I went to take your daughter to work day with my mom, and fell in love with teaching. I loved being able to write on the chalkboard, and watching my mom connect with her students. As I got older I started loving math. Throughout middle school and high school my math teachers were my favorite teachers, and I still have relationships with them to this day. I wanted to be able to be that for a student.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences, is my first ever teaching experience. I was a leave replacement and it was my very first day. I was 22 teaching a class of seniors, and I was very nervous. I finished teaching the lesson, and asked the students how do you think it went? I had one student respond, how did it go for you? I thought it was the nicest thing, and I was able to calm down and really dive into teaching these students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I coach two sports on top of teaching, with the 25,000 I would like to start a screen printing business to be able to bring affordable apparel products to the teams I coach, and hopefully other teams at my school as well. I would like to utilize our Special Education Internship class that we run at my school to "hire" them to be the production line. I think this experience would help increase their life skills, as well as give back to the community.
