I knew I was going to be a teacher since I was 8 years old. My grandma (my idol, my North Star) said I would be a great teacher, and I was instantly SOLD! As I entered my teen years, the growing pains set in. The unpredictability surrounding my whole life and the health of both me and my grandmother pushed me to lean on my teachers for emotional support. My teachers never turned me away. Their unwavering love turned this decision into a calling.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience is right NOW! This year I have a very special group of students. “Team work makes the dream work” is a reality with my students and colleagues. In fact, I was voted as “teacher royalty” by the students at my school! This year, we have broke records— 86% passing rate after Semester 1. The love and community at Camelback is unmatched.
What would you do with the $25,000?As a young teacher hoping to build a long-lasting career in education, $25,000 would be a game changer. From reducing college debt to ensuring my classroom is always stocked with snacks, both I and those around me would benefit from this once-in-a-lifetime prize. It would provide the foundation necessary to maintain a stable and sustainable life as an educator, daughter, writer, and partner.
