Tell us why you became a teacher

From a young age, teaching was my purpose. I played school with friends, always as the teacher. As a teenager, I made copies of workbooks and taught kids while babysitting. With my little sister, who has Asperger's, I learned unique teaching methods in college. My passion for teaching continues today. I believe we all have a purpose, and mine is to help kids realize their potential, empowering them with strategies that will lead to success in whatever path they choose.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments was with a student who resisted coming to school. He would lash out, break things, and even hit. Knowing he loved racing, I created a chart where he’d earn a sticker every time he got off the bus without incident. After earning five stickers, we’d race. The class cheered him on, and soon, he was excited to come to school for his stickers. After our Friday race, he arrived with less resistance. I just needed to find something that motivated him!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With the $25,000, I would add more literature to the classroom. I’d provide snacks for students who might not have one that day and set up a fund for students who can’t afford field trips or extracurricular activities. I’d also invest in new classroom furniture and technology to enhance learning and create a more comfortable and engaging environment for all students. As well as use some for a few home improvements.
