Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I was inspired by my own teachers growing up. I remember the fun and interactive lessons they taught me and the life lessons I gained from along the way. They inspired me to become a teacher who reaches her students through strong relationships and holding students accountable.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My middle school ended up closing due to lack of funding in the district. The last day was incredibly emotional and difficult for both teachers and students alike. When it was time to ring the final bell it was very moving. Suddenly, before the final bell officially rang I had students who had left their other teachers rooms without warning swarming into my room. We all hugged and cried together but it showed just how much my students cared for me.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My answer is pretty boring, but I would put part of it towards buying my first house. My husband and I are both teachers and are looking to find our first home together which has been difficult. The other part not shockingly would go towards our classrooms.
